The Idealism for Environmental Sustainability
After 18 years of conducting fundamental experimental
scientific research to farming system adaptive research and extension (FSAR/E) to try and transfer this science from research
into practical application targetted at alleviating the conditions of the poor farmer and urban poor in developing countries,
the author lost his cherished job at the Natural Resources Institute, and subsequently failed to secure an appointment of
any kind in science, and was thrown into the scrapheap where he earned his living as a petrol station forecourt cleaner
in the United Kingdom. He also noted that none of his scientific papers were even being referred to let alone being taken
forward by scientists in the field, and since he had total integrity in the conduct of his work and some of the findings
were bewildering offering tramendous scope for agricultural development, it was apparent to him that the western scientific
community in particular was either totally prejudiced against him, or worse, was geared primarily to meeting the
material needs of these states and the companies that funded their research rather than representing the pure pursuit of knowledge.
As such a realisation grew, the Founder began considering that there may be economic forces in play preventing real progress in
poverty alleviation and aid-agenicies were either deluded in their approach or were simply paying lip-service in expressing
concern for the plight of the poor in the developing countries as they did not really wish to address the underlying
causes of poverty. Not once was the Founder in his 10 years in the doldrums from 1998 asked to produce his mountain of research
work much of which has remained unpubished, and not once was he invited to important national and international
forums to explain his research findings already published. He also encountered total blockage in the publication new
papers. The Founder was considering that this was being perpetrated by a pretence amongst scientists that his results
were eihter concocted, or not based on scientifically-conducted studies, or simply that these had nothing whatsoever
to contribute to the needs of the planet and its inhabitants, especially to those living in poverty. Coupled to
this the Founder was concerned that existing developmental plans of the major nations was leading towards an obliteration
of biodiversity worldwide which he believed bordered on a criminal waste of resources not yet researched and understood by
mankind to see what possiblities these held to assist mankind in the future.
The author was determined to publish his memoirs
of his working life in science, his scientific findings, and his other experiences, on the consideration that his
work was being prevented from being made available to the world. Suppression of the truth of his experiences represented
a form of persecution that had to be resisted: he had to have his full say and broadcasting himself was the only way this
would happen. The websites of the UnionofPetrolStationWorkers.Com Foundation developed to enable that voice to be
expressed to the world and thus far has resisted considerable forces to get to where it is today.
The Founder is currently examining the international
financial order and the financial interests of banking institutions that allow criminals to exploit market inadequacies (especially
that of the lack of transparency on how Banks across borders deal with each other) to rob unsuspecting people of their savings.
The World Banking institutions who seemed not to be accountable to any authority are also in the spotlight to examine what
form of regulation is required to stop individuals from any one state or the G8 group of nations running the
world from behind closed doors to the detriment of the natural environment and the poor of the developing countries. The conduct
of politicians who watch as bystanders or as mouthpieces in this direction of world affairs will also come
under journalistic scrutiny to determine how the interests of the financial institutions and criminals
to the detriment of the planet, its natural resources, and the poor now and into the future is exposed in the websites
of the UnionofPetrolStationWorkers.Com Foundation for World Development. That is our pledge.
